Cheating By Lying Or Being Dishonest About Your Hand
The most underhanded way to cheat at the Go Fish card game is by being dishonest about your hand or cheating by lying about what you are holding.
It is especially easy for a player to cheat at the Go Fish card game in particular due to the fact that each player has to trust that each player is being honest through the honor system.
The honor system is the invisible code of conduct each player must accept that says that each player is honorable enough not to cheat by lying about what they have when asked if he or she has a card another player wants or needs if he or she is truly is holding that card.
For this reason, it is a good idea when you are playing the card game Go Fish to know the players you are playing against well enough to trust that they won't cheat and lie about their hand.
The Line Between Strategy & Cheating: Card Counting
Having a good memory is a great way to win at the Go Fish card game. If your memory is too good however, and you are able to tell what each player is holding by remembering what they've asked for it could be seen as a type of cheating called card counting.
While card counting is not "Illegal" or officially called a cheat, it is generally labled as cheating and frowned upon and some players strictly refuse to play Go Fish with another player who is able to count cards, or hold what each player asks for in their memory.
Always be considerate when playing Go Fish, especially when playing with people you don't know well. If you know card counting is considered cheating and frowned upon or generally disliked, it's a good idea to respect their wishes and not do it if it's seen as an unfair advantage or a cheat.
